Former Turkey forward Umit Karan has applauded Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for his display in Galatasaray’s 1-0 triumph over Bodrumspor on Monday.
Osimhen led the attack for Galatasaray when they journeyed to Bodrum Ilce Stadi for their Super Lig match against Bodrumspor.
Remember that Osimhen’s strike partner Mauro Icardi suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury just before the international break. Therefore, coach Orkan Buruk positioned Osimhen as the main forward, while Dries Mertens operated just behind him.
In the second period, Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi was brought into the game after Metehan Baltaci’s injury. Ultimately, it was the former Chelsea player who secured Galatasaray’s win.
After the result, former Galatasaray player Umit Karan, who spent more than seven years at the club, criticized their effort. He remarked that many Galatasaray players showed an unmotivated attitude during the game, but Osimhen was the only one who appeared ready for the challenge.
“Osimhen displayed his personality once more. He directed Batshuayi immediately after the goal. He has adjusted to the team incredibly well,” Karan said.
“Against Bodrumspor, Osimhen didn’t just act as a central striker. He was the captain of this squad.
“I want to praise Osimhen sincerely. He might be the best player in the league already, but in this match, he demonstrated the strength of his spirit.
“He delivered the message ‘I will lead this team.’ He quickly embraced this sense of responsibility.”
With Icardi sidelined until next season, Galatasaray’s goal-scoring load will rest on Osimhen. However, this is not unfamiliar territory for him, as he led Napoli to the Serie A title two years ago.
