SAVINHO TO THE RESCUE! Brazilian’s return could be the key to unlocking Foden again

Phil Foden hasn’t registered a goal or assist since mid December . That’s nearly THREE MONTHS without a direct contribution for one of the most talented players in the country .

But Manchester City might have just found the solution and his name is Savinho.

THE FODEN CONUNDRUM

Let’s be honest, it’s been a tough campaign. Last season’s relentless schedule, the Euros, another summer tournament. Foden looked spent before this season even began .

There was a brief spark in November and December, six goals and an assist in four Premier League games suggested the old Foden was back . Then nothing since Crystal Palace on December 13.

Pep Guardiola’s prescription? Fishing.

“He has to recover himself good and just focus on playing football and going to fish,” the City boss said last month. “He loves fishing and that’s it.”

It’s not every day a Premier League manager tells his star to pick up a rod. But the reasoning was sound: Foden needs a reset.

THE SAVINHO SPARK

Enter Savinho. The Brazilian winger has had his own nightmare season, injuries at the start and on New Year’s Day disrupting his momentum . But Saturday night at Newcastle? A statement.

Blistering pace. Brilliant crossing. A fortunate equaliser that changed the game. John Stones was in awe.

“How direct he was, his pace to touch it past you and get to full speed is incredible,” the defender said afterwards. “He kept going, crosses, the chances and I’m so pleased for him. It’s difficult coming back from injury, he came on in the last game and made an impact, and the same again today.”

THE SOLUTION

Savinho’s return to form isn’t just good for City, it’s perfect for Foden. If the Brazilian can stay fit and consistently deliver performances like that, he takes some of the creative burden off the England man’s shoulders.

That allows Foden to refresh. To step back. To find that spark again without the pressure of carrying the attack every game.

THE WORLD CUP FACTOR

There’s an argument that Foden missing out on the World Cup squad would be ideal for City . A full summer break, proper rest, a chance to reset completely.

Being snubbed could also light a fire under him. But if his form improves, Thomas Tuchel will pick him. That’s just how it works.

THE SHORT TERM

For now, City have a solution. Savinho can take the strain. If he replicates that Newcastle performance consistently, Guardiola can give Foden the time and space he desperately needs.

Three months without a contribution is a long time. But with Savinho stepping up, Foden might finally get the break he’s been crying out for without City suffering on the pitch.
