Vlahović’s Late Penalty Rescues Juventus in Thrilling 2-2 Draw Against Venezia

Dušan Vlahović converted a 95th-minute spot-kick to maintain Juventus’ undefeated run in the Serie A campaign, as the Bianconeri fended off a valiant Venezie fightback to secure a 2-2 stalemate and deny the visitors a first H2H success since 1962.

Without a victory away from home in the top-tier since their promotion, Venezia arrived at the Allianz Stadium with the league’s poorest traveling defence and merely five goals scored on the road, facing an in-form Juventus coming off a 2-0 success over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League. Predictably, the Bianconeri started strongly and found a breakthrough within the first 20 minutes, as Federico Gatti profited from Khéphren Thuram’s flicked header at a corner to prod home at the near post.

Juve then retreated as Venezia settled into the contest, with Magnus Kofod Andersen striking the crossbar with an exceptional half-volley beyond a diving Michele Di Gregorio. Despite their intensity, the Lagunari lacked the cutting edge to penetrate one of the league’s stingiest defences, leaving them trailing at halftime for only the second instance in six away matches this season.

The second half began with controversy as Kenan Yıldız’s towering header was chalked off for a handball during the buildup, followed by Thuram’s long-range strike grazing the post. Venezia grasped their moment to respond, with Mikael Egill Ellertsson leaping to connect with Francesco Zampano’s one-touch cross, heading home expertly to equalize against the flow of play.

Motta reacted with two attacking changes in an urgent attempt to regain control, but it was the visitors who produced a remarkable turn to stun the home crowd. Hans Nicolussi Caviglia’s precise free-kick located Jay Idzes, whose deft header nestled in the far corner, putting Venezia on the verge of a historic triumph. The Bianconeri, however, had different plans, as Antonio Candela’s handball handed Vlahović the opportunity to slot home a last-gasp penalty, which he calmly placed into the bottom-left corner to rescue Juve’s unbeaten run and stretch it to 11 games across all tournaments. Venezia, on the other hand, remain anchored to the foot of the table after seeing a late win slip away for the second consecutive week.
