Bayern Munich players and officials praised the team’s mentality after they roared back from two goals down to hammer Freiburg 6–2, turning a shaky start into a statement victory ahead of a huge clash with Arsenal.
Freiburg struck twice from set pieces in the opening 20 minutes, leaving Bayern flat and the home crowd stunned. But once Bayern clicked into gear, the comeback was brutal. Michael Olise was involved in five goals, Dayot Upamecano got on the scoresheet, and the Bundesliga champions stormed to three points with a dominant second-half display.
Harry Kane, who was central to the turnaround, said the squad simply raised their intensity after the break. “We didn’t do well in the first 20 minutes, but then we showed character,” he said. “We came out with a lot more energy in the second half. We did a really good job both on and off the ball and showed FC Bayern’s true colours. Arsenal make life difficult, but we must analyse them and find where we can hurt them.”
Midfield star Aleksandar Pavlović echoed Kane’s sentiments about resilience. “We didn’t give up despite falling behind, we kept up the tempo, won balls at the back and scored up front,” he said. “We were caught napping at two set-piece situations but fought back well.”
Jonathan Tah said Bayern’s belief never wavered even at 0–2. “We knew we had to shift up through the gears. We know we can turn things around at any point. We have the team spirit and solidarity it takes,” he said, though he admitted set piece marking must improve. “We’re really looking forward to Arsenal… we’re full of confidence.”
Head coach Vincent Kompany credited individual brilliance for turning the tide. “Two players do something special in a difficult phase and we get out of this situation. Then our momentum returns,” he said. “It’s definitely down to quality.”
CEO Jan Christian Dreesen said the comeback underlined Bayern’s composure. “To win like this after being two goals down isn’t a matter of course. We’re very confident and never get nervous. Olise was involved in five goals, outstanding of course. Arsenal know we’re in good form.”
Sporting director Max Eberl added that Freiburg’s early edge forced Bayern to react. “We didn’t do well in the first 20 minutes… but we upped the pressure after the second goal. Huge compliment to the team, it isn’t a matter of course to fight back like this.”
Upamecano, thrilled with his first goal of the season, said: “We have a superb coach and a superb team, we play really well and want to win every match.”
Youngster Lennart Karl, who surprisingly started in attacking midfield, said he was proud Set featured imageof the team response. “Everybody knows we’re very good in attack. We struggled at first and conceded two from set pieces, but we fought back very well,” he said, though he admitted he had to come off injured after a training knock.
The win keeps Bayern’s momentum rolling at just the right time. Arsenal await next, and with confidence soaring, Bayern will fancy taking three points in what could be a defining European test.
