Bayern Munich are ready to take a MASSIVE hit on Kim Min jae slashing his asking price to just €30m (£26m) in a cut price deal that has Chelsea and Tottenham scrambling .
The German giants paid €50m (£43.6m) to Napoli for the South Korean in 2023. Now they’re willing to sell at a massive loss, with the 29 year old falling down the pecking order under Vincent Kompany .
Here’s the killer detail, Bayern’s “main goal” is to recoup €35/40m, but that figure could drop to around €30m if offers include immediate payment . That’s a fire sale in anyone’s book.
WHY THE PANIC SELL?
Kim’s situation at the Allianz has gone properly south. Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano are now the preferred partnership, with Kim reduced to a rotational option . He’s made just 11 Bundesliga starts this season and only TWO in the Champions League .
Local German media have been brutal. Bavarian Football Works gave him 4/10 for his first half performances, and fan forums are filled with comments questioning his pace and composure . One fan even suggested he should “return to Korea and join a K POP group” harsh doesn’t cover it.
FCB Inside reckons he’s now the “third option” within the club . And when you’re behind two established centre backs and the manager doesn’t trust you, there’s only one way out.
CHELSEA’S MOVE
Dean Jones has confirmed Chelsea’s interest, telling TEAMtalk the Blues are “increasingly likely to enter the market for a proven, high level centre back” . Liam Rosenior’s side lean heavily on developing talent at the back, Kim would bring serious experience .
But there’s a catch. Kim is on £200,000 a week in Munich, among Bayern’s top ten earners . That’s a wage packet that’d make even the Chelsea bean sounters gulp.
Jones admits the prospect of a transfer is “still quite slim” right now, but Chelsea are “more open minded than when they were previously only looking at younger players” .
SPURS WATCHING
Tottenham are also in the mix. With question marks over Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s futures, Ange Postecoglou needs reinforcements . Kim’s availability at cut price could be too good to ignore.
THE WOLVES WILDCARD
Meanwhile, Bayern are also sniffing around Wolves wonderkid Mateus Mané . The 18 year old forward is attracting interest from basically EVERYONE PSG, Leipzig, Dortmund, plus half the Premier League.
Mané is happy at Molineux but wouldn’t turn down a big move, especially if Wolves go down .
THE VERDICT
Kim at €30m is a no brainer in today’s market. Yes, he’s struggled for consistency. Yes, there are concentration questions. But a defender of his pedigree, Serie A Defender of the Year, key man in Napoli’s title win, doesn’t become useless overnight .
For Chelsea or Spurs, it’s about whether they can make the wages work. For Kim, it’s about whether he wants to fight for his place or start fresh in the Premier League.
Bayern are flexible. The price is dropping. And the London clubs are watching. This one’s got legs.
