Cyriel Dessers Edges Closer to Panathinaikos Return After Two-Month Injury Layoff

30 years old Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has taken a big step towards his comeback at Panathinaikos, joining partial team training on Friday after nearly two months out injured.

The 30 year old has been sidelined since September with a sprain, a setback that saw him miss ten matches in all competitions and ruled him out of Nigeria’s last four international fixtures against Lesotho, Benin Republic, Gabon and DR Congo.

He finally reappeared on the grass with the squad ahead of Sunday’s Super League clash with Panserraikos, taking part in parts of the session rather than full contact drills. Training kicked off with warm-up routines before shifting into a rondo, tactical shapes and finishing practice.

It’s a timely boost for Panathinaikos, whose attacking depth has looked thin as the season has started to stretch them. Dessers arrived in the summer window and settled in quickly, bagging two goals from his opening four appearances before the injury halted his momentum.

The former Rangers and Feyenoord forward will now be pushing to make the matchday squad, though the coaching staff likely won’t rush him straight back into heavy minutes. Fans are hoping he can pick up where he left off once fully fit and add some much needed firepower up top.

With the title race heating up and fixtures coming thick, Dessers’ return could be a massive boost for the Greens if only he can stay fit and hit form again sharpish.
