EXCLUSIVE: Leipzig Skipper David Raum in No Rush Over New Deal as MLS Dream Revealed

RB Leipzig captain David Raum has admitted he’s in “no hurry” to extend his contract with the Bundesliga club, and has revealed a clear ambition to end his career with a move to Major League Soccer in the United States.

The 27 year old Germany international, whose current deal expires in the summer of 2027, confirmed there have been no talks over a new contract and that his focus remains solely on the pitch. Speaking to Bulinews.com during a media round, Raum was relaxed about his future, stating extension talks are “not a big topic” right now.

“No, not yet,” Raum replied when asked if discussions had taken place. “I just focus on my game and my new role at the club. I have a contract beyond this season, so there’s no hurry at the moment.”

He added: “If the club comes to me, of course we can sit together and talk about it… I’m very happy here and have a clear goal with the team this season, and that’s all I focus on. Playing at my second World Cup after the season is another goal I have, and then we’ll see after that.”

Raum’s comments will inevitably raise eyebrows in Leipzig, where he has been a consistent performer since his €26 million move from Hoffenheim in 2022. The attacking left back has notched six goals and provided 25 assists in 128 appearances, earning the captain’s armband this season.

Looking further ahead, Raum opened up about a long term desire to experience life stateside. “I’m a big fan of the United States,” he revealed. “I’ve been on holiday there a few times in the last couple of years. I can imagine playing in the US for a little bit in the last years of my career.”

The defender even suggested a permanent move could be on the cards, saying, “I’ve also been talking to my wife about maybe living in the US after my career, but let’s see.”

While a 2027 departure remains some way off, Raum’s relaxed stance on an extension and his public admiration for the MLS project will put Leipzig on alert. The club typically prefers to secure key assets on long term deals to protect their value, and losing a captain on a free transfer would represent a significant sporting and financial blow.

For now, Raum’s immediate priorities are clear: leading Leipzig in their pursuit of Champions League football and securing his place in Germany’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. But between the lines, the message is just as clear, the skipper’s head has already turned towards a future under the bright lights of America.
