Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United exit is all but done and the club have already drawn up a FIVE MAN shortlist to replace him .
The 28 year old has been a revelation at Barcelona since his loan move, with 10 goals and 13 assists in 37 games . Sport report that the Spanish champions are “fully convinced” and will trigger the £26m permanent clause in the summer .
Rashford’s made no secret of his happiness. “It’s been amazing. I feel welcome, I feel at home,” he said late last year. “Learning the language, learning the culture, it’s all enjoyable for me. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.”
He’ll take a pay cut to make it happen. Barca’s finances are what they are. But he wants to stay, they want him to stay. Done deal.
THE REPLACEMENTS
United are already planning for life without their academy product and the shortlist is a mix of young guns and proven talent.
Bradley Barcola (PSG) The 23 year old is the most prominent name on the list . A PSG regular, already won titles, considered one of Europe’s top young forwards. Won’t be cheap.
Iliman Ndiaye (Everton) Premier League experience, one v one threat, exactly the kind of direct player who’d thrive at Old Trafford. Everton would fight to keep him, but money talks.
Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) Raw, young, high potential. Fits the recruitment model United have shifted towards.
Jesus Rodriguez (Como) Lighting up Serie A with Cesc Fabregas’s side. The 22 year old has been turning heads all season.
Martial Godo (Strasbourg) Another young wide man, part of the Chelsea/Strasbourg pipeline. Raw but exciting.
THE EUROPE FACTOR
United are third in the Premier League, on course for Champions League football . That matters. Top talent wants to play at the highest level.
Barcola, especially, will have options. United need to sell the project and European qualification is a massive part of that pitch.
RASHFORD’S LEGACY
It’s been a strange end to a United career that promised so much. Academy graduate. Local hero. 10 goals and 13 assists this season for Barcelona.
The move makes sense for everyone. Rashford gets a fresh start. United get £26m and wage bill relief. Barca get a forward who’s finally enjoying his football again.
Now it’s about what comes next. Five names on the list. One spot to fill. The summer rebuild continues.
