Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray has set his sights on a return to action in the FA Cup fourth round tie against Leeds United on February 15th, after five frustrating weeks on the sidelines.
The 29 year old former Premier League winner has missed the last eight matches since pulling up with a calf injury in the Boxing Day draw with Derby County. While a reunion with his former club Leicester City this weekend is likely to come too soon, and next week’s West Bromwich Albion derby remains doubtful, the finish line is now in sight.
“It’s been quite a smooth rehab process. I’ve not really had any setbacks,” Gray told the Blue Rising podcast. “I’m only a few weeks away. I’m trying to get back for the cup game.”
He admitted the wait has been tough: “It’s difficult not being able to play but hopefully I’ll come back and pick up good momentum again.”
The potential return of their star winter signing would be a major boost for Blues ahead of the glamour tie against top flight Leeds at St Andrew’s. Gray’s pace and creativity have been sorely missed during a congested Championship schedule, and his comeback could provide a timely spark for the club’s cup ambitions and league form. For now, the target is clear: be fit and firing for the visit of Daniel Farke’s side.
