Iwobi Hails Fulham’s Fortress Form After Hard-Fought Home Win Over Sunderland

Alex Iwobi says Fulham’s home form is turning Craven Cottage into a proper fortress after another tight victory on their own patch. The Cottagers have now won four league games this season, all of them at home. while they’ve managed just a single point on the road so far.

It wasn’t the prettiest win, with Sunderland digging in and wasting time whenever they got the chance, but Fulham kept plugging away and finally nicked it late on. Iwobi admitted it felt like one of those long afternoons where the ball just wouldn’t go in.

“Our home form has been really good,” the ex Arsenal midfielder said, speaking after the match. “They’re a tough side and they’ve been doing really well, but we has the belief that we can perform against anyone.

“We created so many chances today. It was almost one of those where you wonder if it will ever go on. Credit to the lads, we kept on believing and thank god one of them went in.”

The Nigerian international also insisted Fulham aren’t scared of anyone in the division, though he stressed maintaining consistency is key if they’re to climb the table. “We don’t fear anyone in the league. We give our respect to Sunderland. But now it’s all about consistency for us to go and get the results we need.”

Iwobi revealed Marco Silva’s squad spent much of the week working on different patterns to break Sunderland down. “It was working, but we just couldn’t put the ball in the net,” he added. “As long as we can keep clean sheets, then we’ll always create chances to score.”

The win keeps Fulham comfortably mid-table and strengthens their record at home, where most of their points has come from this term. With tricky fixtures ahead, keeping Craven Cottage a place opponents dread could be vital if they’re to push into the top half.
