JOHN OBI MIKEL has told his old club to stop messing about and go get Victor Osimhen, insisting the Nigerian knockout artist is exactly what Chelsea’s blunt attack has been crying out for.
The Blues legend watched on as his former side splashed the best part of £90m on Joao Pedro and Liam Delap last summer.
But the return? A measly SEVEN Premier League goals between ’em in 33 appearances .
That’s not good enough and Mikel knows it.
“Victor Osimhen,” the former midfield general said when asked who could fix Chelsea’s forward line.
“He can stretch the play, he can run behind, he can come short, he can score goals, he can do everything” .
Mikel didn’t stop there. He wants someone with proper nous up top.
“You need that experienced striker who’s been there, done it, knows how to win big games, knows how to score in big games, knows how to be in the right place at the right time” .
And he’s got a point.
Osimhen’s been tearing it up in Turkey since his loan from Napoli turned permanent. The 27 year old has already bagged 50 goals for Galatasaray and he got there quicker than anyone this century .
We’re talking 59 games. That’s ten fewer than Mauro Icardi managed .
Last season alone? Thirty seven goals in 41 appearances. He also smashed the Turkish record for most goals by a foreigner in a single campaign .
This term he’s got 14 in 20 across all comps, including six in the Champions League .
The guy’s a machine.
Meanwhile at the Bridge, it’s been a struggle. Joao Pedro’s got nine league goals which ain’t bad but Delap’s only managed one in 15 top flight outings .
The young lad did grab three assists in the FA Cup romp against Hull recently recovering from a proper howler when he thought he’d scored but the ball hadn’t crossed the line .
Gaffer Liam Rosenior called his display “top” afterwards .
But Mikel wants someone who guarantees goals when it really matters. Someone with a Scudetto on his CV from that ridiculous Napoli title win.
Osimhen’s valued at around €75m . Not cheap. But Chelsea’s spent more for less in recent windows.
The question is whether Galatasaray would play ball. He’s under contract until 2029 and the fans worship him .
Then again, the Premier League’s a hell of a draw.
Chelsea sit fourth in the table but need a proper focal point if they’re gonna close the gap on the teams above .
Mikel’s made his feelings clear. Now it’s over to the suits.
